Scott Davies after the Wrexham game.

By Sam Heaney

Scott Davies made some terrific saves as Fleetwood Town stepped 1 point closer to the Football League after drawing 1-1 with Wrexham.

‘It was quite a tough game with Wrexham throwing all they had at us. I think the occasion may have got to a few of us but nevertheless it’s a fantastic point! Everybody said if we avoid defeat to The Red Dragons we’ll win the league and hopefully that’s the case.’

An astonishing 4994 supporters watched from the terraces to see table-topping Town take on second placed Wrexham on Tuesday night.

‘The atmosphere was brilliant! Those are the kind of games you want to be playing in. Credit has to go to both sets of fans, I thought Wrexham were great turning up in their numbers and around 4000 from Fleetwood which goes to show how the Club has improved over the years. Our support were absolutely outstanding!’

Davies made a number of key saves in the game, notably one 3 minutes from the end with Dean Keates’s strike.

‘Saving shots is what I’m there to do. Every team has to rely on their goalkeeper at some point in a game. You have to be on your toes to keep a place in such a successful side.’

‘I think the final result was fair. I don’t think we were as good as we have been this season, some of the team looked a little bit nervous. Wrexham gave us all they could in my opinion and we still didn’t lose so the unbeaten run continues so we go into Friday’s game knowing what we have to do.’

Town play hosts to Lincoln on Friday night and a victory will see them clinch the league title with automatic promotion to League 2.

‘There isn’t a better way to win the league than playing in front of your home supporters, we need to do it on Friday for them. We will prepare and then the result will take care of itself’

Davies has been key to Town’s promotion push with some important saves at crucial times. The number one’s played every single league and FA Cup game and has became a fans favourite at the Club.
