Steve McNulty Interview

By Sam Heaney

Steve McNulty is determined to be fully fit as we approach the Football League campaign after starting his fitness training early in order to compete at the best of his ability next season.

'Ive had a good 4 or 5 weeks off in the summer to recharge myself but then I started working with fitness coaches Andy Hodgson and Martin Cooper to give myself a bit of a head start.

McNulty holds some great memories at Highbury and now it
s time to move on in the future and create some history.

'The main aim was to get into the Football League when I arrived at the club, now we have done that. The players that have been brought in look to be terrific signings. Fleetwood are not going into League 2 to make up the numbers, we want to compete and hopefully win promotion to League 1!

Micky Mellon has completed several transfers this summer that will help strengthen Town ahead of their upcoming campaign.
'The players coming in have a lot of experience so it can only be positive. We are a relatively young side so it will benefit the team without a doubt.

I already know Steven Gillespie from our Liverpool days; we went through the system together. He is a proven goal scorer and has played at a high level throughout his career. There are about 8 people from Liverpool in the team so Im sure he will fit in fine.

Fleetwood Town always set their targets high and this continues to be the theme as they approach npower League 2.
'The Chairman always makes his plans clear. Ive been to clubs where promises had not followed through but here at Fleetwood Town we always seem to deliver especially because we have a great manager.

McNulty and the rest of the squad return from pre-season training this Thursday before embarking on their second pre-season tour of Austria next week.
